Joanne, the baby and I are okay. Sugar Land is to the south west of Houston. We are 40 miles from the coast north of Surfside Texas. The original forecasts would have been a lot worse for us when they predicted landfall near Freeport. The reason is that the left side of the storm is the "clean side", the other side is the "dirty side" more winds, tornados, rain and storm surge. That doesn't mean the clean side is the safe side, but the winds are less. So in Houston the wind was 90 over here it was 70 not a walk in the park, but better than 90. The storm surge is an issue inland because it backs up the rivers which means that there are difficulties draining off all the rain.

As for us specifically, we had no power from Midnight on Friday to 9pm on Saturday. We ran most of the time on our generator, but it isn't powerful enough to run everything. Mostly the fridge, freezer and a couple of fans. There is no damage to the house, but I lost a section of fence. We boarded up the south bound windows in case we did get hit by the dirty side.

My muslim neighbors lost a lot of shingles which caused a collapse of their ceiling because water seaped in but it looks like they are the only ones with home damage on my street. I helped them cover up the parts of the roof that had shingles blown off with tarps and heavy duty garbage bags. Hopefully it will hold up until they can get it repaired. They had just gotten up for their morning prayer at 5am and 2 minutes later the ceiling collapsed in the room where three of them were sleeping.
